PAUW

Caroline International / Goomah Music

WE SAY

The Dutch are out in force in Brighton this weekend and another act worthy of your attention is the excellent PAUW. They formed just two years ago, but this opening track is one of the stand-outs from their well-received debut album Macrocosm Microcosm. Stuffed full of neat nods to the best psychedelic-influenced guitar pop of the 60’s and 70’s, of which all the boys in the band are huge fans, their songs take on a new life when played live. Every member of the group will engage you. Their skills have been earned the old-fashioned way through relentless gigging and showcases (which have already included SXSW, Eurosonic and ILMC since January), and won over admirers supporting Temples along the way. There’s no doubting their ambition and you can see for yourself just why they’re so hotly-tipped, firstly at their debut London show at Nambucca tonight (May 19) then a pair of Great Escape gigs this Friday (May 20) - first a 2.30 afternoon Dutch Impact gig at Komedia then a midnight appearance at Latest Music Bar. Bold and audacious, this is retro-tinged pop at its best.
