Sometimes
Oscar
WE SAY
Top-notch British power pop of the highest possible order - that’s what Oscar delivers here on this instantaneous favourite of ours. He’s a 24-year old Londoner who’s been earning his chops live over the past twelve months with acts like Gengahr, Hinds, Ezra Furman and others. During that time, he’s released three singles including Breaking My Phone, which picked up twenty plays at Radio 1 and has generated more than 300,000 YouTube views to date. This latest is the defiant opener on his forthcoming debut album Cut And Paste, and the solid production on the track from the great Greg Kurstin (who’s just worked with Adele on Hello) sets out Oscar’s stall right from the off - it's punchy, crunchy and full of the best retro-leaning influences imaginable. Annie Mac has been a supporter and fan for many months and her premiere of this song a few weeks back was swiftly followed by Huw Stephens playing it again that evening. Tonight (January 25) he’s live in London at Village Underground and will be on top form following his recent Eurosonic gigs. This tune is totally red hot.
