23 year old south-east London born Nikola Rachelle's debut displays a strong soulful voice. The influences on her MySpace spell out the direction she's going in. Chris Braide (who has written for Clay Aiken, Will Young and Kylie, among others) co-wrote this with Nikola. It's a skillful and classy debut. From the tracks she has recorded, and the breadth of styles that she approaches and pulls off, we don't think she will be without a label for long. AWAL will release an EP in October exclusive to iTunes and she will share four nights next week in support to Lemar at the Jazz Cafe. Go see. JF London Gig: 11-14 September, Jazz Cafe NW1
