The involvement of Rick Rubin, one of the most important producers of the last 20 years, turned out to be an inspired career move on Diamond's part, instantly getting him a deserved critical reassessment. 12 Songs is currently Radio 2's Album of the Week and Delirious Love (on the Radio 2 C List) proves that Rubin's restrained production style works wonders when the song and the singer are this good.
