Today’s Ones To Watch 2021 is Thailand’s English-language indie-folk rock band My Life as Ali Thomas. Having originally started out as a solo project of vocalist Pie and her alter-ego Ali Thomas, the group came together when she was introduced to guitarist Rack at the Cosmic Bar in Bangkok and then drummer Taw. After playing numerous shows around the city, they signed with Warner Music Thailand and released their debut album Paper in 2016, which gained them critical acclaim at home and abroad. This led to them securing major Thai festivals such as Big Mountain Music Festival, Wonderfruit, CAT Expo, and internationally at Music Matters (Singapore, 2016), Golden Melody Awards (Taiwan, 2017) and as Thailand’s first act to showcase at SXSW (Austin, 2019). Since then, they have been hard at work writing and recording their second album, Peppermint Town, and this year released their first singles from it - the gorgeous Dear All The Universe and this waltzy, folk-rock slow jam. Having been impressed by the aforementioned singles and been lucky enough to hear tracks from the forthcoming album, we can wholeheartedly say that they are a band that should be on your radar. With support from Spotify and Apple Music in their native Thailand and a legion of loyal fans there, as well as a sound that can happily grace the airwaves and playlists here in the UK, Europe and US, My Life as Ali Thomas are a band ready to have a breakout year in 2021.
