That Ain't The Way It Is

Hailing from Leeds, Mugen are a three-piece indie alt band who formed over a year ago and are already showing enormous potential with their early material. That Ain’t The Way It Is is the first single from their debut EP (which will be released in early 2018) and was recorded at the Greenmount Studios with producers Lee Smith and Jamie Lockhart (The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses, Post War Glamour Kids). The track blends laid-back, twinkling guitar riffs with joyously, uplifting vocals to create a sound that is reminiscent of bands such as The Coral, Doves and Pavement. With its accompanying animated video featuring Mugen the hedgehog, the band’s namesake and personification of their singer/songwriter Harry Kinchington the band has produced something visually and musically beautiful. We look forward to hearing the rest of their EP over the coming months as well as their animated videos. The band is currently seeking label and publishing interest and will be playing a string of dates between London and Leeds over September/October.
