WE SAY
It’s not often that we are blown away by the sheer beauty of a song here at RotD, but with MJ Cole’s latest collaboration with Freya Ridings, we sat in stunned silence as the gorgeous piano instrumental unfurled into this majestic and atmospheric number, powered by Freya’s ethereal and tender vocals. It’s something truly special and sees a marked change in direction for producer MJ Cole, whose recent club-ready Foundations EP wowed tastemakers like Annie Mac, Target, Julie Adenuga, Dummy, Trench and Hunger earlier in October. Expect to see Waking Up feature high up on new release programming this Friday across streaming services, having already picked up online tastemaker support from Complex UK and Clash, as well as its first play on Radio 1 with Annie Mac on Monday. A beguiling and haunting track that is set to storm streaming playlists and charts over the coming weeks and months. Just magnificent.
