Not much is known about Swedish newcomer MIO, but over the last couple of months this enigmatic artist has been sharing some seriously addictive pop gems and today sees them all come together with the release of debut EP so what do we do now? Featuring previous singles, High On Me, Lost and Wasting Lies, the EP and accompanying visual project (containing the videos for singles and new track Nude) tells the story of a turbulent, passionate but ultimately doomed relationship of a young couple. It’s a sublime record, flicking between Latin and trap-inspired beats to R&B dance-pop while With Love, its final track, blends an alluring vocal over warm synth lines and bouncy bass tones. Primed for inclusion on new release programming tomorrow and New Pop streaming playlists, With Love continues to showcase MIO’s knack for writing accessible and genre-hopping hits. Previous streaming support has come from Spotify with track additions to their Weekend Hangouts, Get Your Hits Together and GRL PWR editorial playlists, as well as several New Music Fridays (USA, Canada, & Sweden). Clash, Spindle Magazine, Popjustice, It’s All Indie and House of Solo are among a number of online tastemakers who have already supported this rising star and with more to come over the next week, it’s shaping up for an exciting year for MIO.
