WE SAY
It’s very early days for Minque, but we think it’s well worth bringing this unsigned act to your attention, especially with the industry now gearing up for the annual tips season. Based in Portsmouth’s coastal resort Southsea, their melodic, melancholic electro pop sound is the work of 18-year old singer-songwriter Dani Uziel alongside producer and collaborator Ben Ottesen. It’s an interesting dynamic with Ben’s dramatic and often dark soundscapes overlaid by Dani’s soft and introspective vocals. But it’s a combination that really works, and is already finding favour with local live audiences and the wider industry too. BBC Introducing South have played a couple of their tracks and their debut EP Opia is lined up for release next month, ahead of a full album hopefully next summer. London shows are planned for the start of 2017 to showcase the EP but first there's a gig at Drift in Portsmouth this Friday night (October 14). With early interest from several music publishers, thanks to a handful of online teaser tracks, we’ll follow their progress closely in the coming months.
