I'll Be Home For Christmas
Michael Ball & Alfie Boe
WE SAY
For our final Record of the Day selection of 2016, it’s an emotional seasonal offering from the album Together, which is bang on course to be the official Christmas No.1 this coming Friday (December 23). Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s remarkable six-week run on the chart already opened with sales just shy of 45k for a No.2 placing behind Robbie Williams. Since then, it's ramped up week after week and has now outsold every other UK release this year, including David Bowie's Blackstar. Going platinum a couple of weeks ago, and now tipping over the 400,000 sales mark in the past 24 hours, it’s a phenomena that has legs to carry through both Valentine’s and Mothers Day 2017. Most of all it ends an amazing year for all the team at Decca, who truly know how to market an act like this. Several labels were fighting for the project when it was first mooted last spring. Now, following a hugely successful UK tour that ended last week, the duo are back on the road next June and December for bigger dates, which are already close to selling out. The march of the so-called Grey Pound means we can expect the Together Again album next Q4. Their appeal? Quite simply, two well-loved voices performing at the very top of the game. Tomorrow - we reveal our Record of the Year.
