WE SAY
Performing an early evening gig at Brighton’s St Nicholas Church tonight (10 May, 7.15pm) and a show at the Marine Rooms, Harbour Hotel on Saturday (11 May, 9.15pm) at the Great Escape this week is singer-songwriter Michael Baker. Having featured him back in February 2017 after falling for tracks from his gorgeous debut album Dust & Bone, he is now back ready to showcase new material from his forthcoming second album, Salt. Recorded in the countryside with friends, the album is shaping up to be something rather beautiful by the sounds of this first release. Gorgeously strummed guitars are met with lush pedal steel flourishes, soft percussion and Michael’s heartwarming vocals. This immaculately produced and captivating number marks a big step forward for Michael and with the excellent Big Hug Management (Jerry Williams, LUCA and Flowvers) behind him, he is in a safe pair of hands as he continues to build his career. Tastemaker support has so far come from the likes of the Independent, Clash, 6 Music, Mahogany and BBC Introducing, and by the end of Saturday, we reckon, there will be plenty more admirers for this talented songwriter.
