Drawing influences from Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, Wilco and the Velvet Underground is Michael B Thomas, the solo project of Leeds singer-songwriter and Party Hardly vocalist Thomas Barr. Signed to Bam Bam Records, a label run by Eades frontman Harry Jordan, Thomas has released this charming acoustic guitar-led debut. Co-produced by Harry Jordan and Dan Clifford-Smith, August sees Thomas open up about the transition between adolescence and adulthood, backed by some soothing guitar lines and carefully paced percussion. Perfect for lo-fi folk and alternative editorial playlists at DSPs and spins on 6 Music and specialist shows on Radio 1, August is an intimate and thoughtful introduction.
