Back in the eighties, US radio DJs coined the phrase ‘The Quiet Storm’ to describe that soulful smooth sound that artists such as Sade and Anita Baker were delivering. This exquisite track from Danish-bred singer Marie Dahlstrøm would have fitted that genre just perfectly, and you can hear those wonderful old-skool influences shine through brightly here. Marie was born in Copenhagen but is now based in London and released her first EP Feelings in 2011. It led to her winning three trophies for Best EP, Best Single and Artist Of The Year and the Scandinavian Soul Music Awards in 2013, She picked up another Best Single gong again in 2015, and now her recently released EP 0.0 has seen her fan base grow beyond the Nordics, with Complex, Nylon and The Line Of Best Fit all now showing big love and support for her songs. Tonight (January 26) she’s joined by Intalekt as her support act for a gig at St. James Church in north London and if this sublime slice of stripped-back gospel-tinged soul is anything to go by, the setting couldn’t be more perfect. This is quality stuff, pure and simple.
