Don't Wait
Mapei
Columbia Records/Downtown Records
WE SAY
Regarded by many hip tastemakers last year as one of 2013's great tracks, this exceptional song by Mapei now finally looks set to get full mainstream attention in the UK, just as she's about to hit these shores for her debut live date too. She first came to attention four years ago when her EP The Cocoa Butter Diaries created a major underground buzz in the States and beyond. Now based in Sweden and working with acclaimed pop producer Magnus Lidehäll, the pair co-wrote this featured single together after she'd after several years of travelling and living in a bunch of different countries, finally returning to Stockholm, the place she spent much of her teenage years. The sound is a wonderful blend of her soulful vocal, crafted pop sensibility and crisp, electronic minimalist production that gives the whole thing plenty of room to breathe. Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Phil and Alice and Rob Da Bank at Radio 1 have all been supporting the track along with plays at 1Xtra, Kiss Fresh and Rinse too. London's Cargo venue is the place to see her first ever UK show on July 2. Cool and classy, this song truly deserves to fly.
