My Generation
Louis Dunford
WE SAY
Starting our second week of Ones To Watch 2022 is London singer, songwriter and storyteller Louis Dunford. We first featured him back in November 2020 with the powerfully thoughtful, emotionally raw and undeniably honest debut, London’s Requiem. Since then, he has released his debut EP, The Morland that included the above single and the emotional Ballad of Benjamin, which was written for his best friend, who died as a result of knife crime at just 16. Along the way, Louis has picked up numerous tastemaker support from the likes of SBTV, Clash, i-D, Far Out, Complex and Wonderland, to name just a few, as well as plays at BBC Radio London and Radio X. His latest track, My Generation, raises the stakes again, with a clever discourse over the plight of his peers in today’s society. It is taken from his forthcoming second EP, The Popham, out in March 2022 and made an immediate impact at DSPs, featuring on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer editorial playlists. He has just sold out a headline show at London’s Lafayette and next year will embark on a headline UK tour next April (including a sold-out Union Chapel show) and will also support Jake Bugg at three shows that month too. Louis is just starting out on his journey, but what we like about him, and marks him as one of our Ones To Watch 2022, is his ability to honestly approach tragedy or share everyday humour through frank storytelling in his songs that is both heartfelt and gritty. With his forthcoming EP and UK tour, Louis has everything ready for a breakout year.
