Backroads
Lonely The Brave
WE SAY
There's something touchingly unambitious about Lonely The Brave's Facebook description of 'five men trying to be something to someone', as if one new fan would be considered a job well done. By their own modest standards they have failed spectacularly, having pricked the ears of Daniel Carter, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and a host of others at Radio 1, making the BBC Introducing list for previous track Black Saucers and eliciting an embarrassment of adoring press from Kerrang! to the Telegraph. Epic without being showy, new single Backroads is almost accidentally anthemic, rather as singer David Jakes' insistence on singing from the back of the stage seems only to amplify his tender lyrics. (Their cover on this EP of Antony & The Johnsons' Hope There's Someone should indicate beyond any doubt that LTB is no ordinary rock band.) Following supports to Deftones and BRMC and a brace of summer festival appearances, the band's first headline show at The Lexington last week sold out seven weeks in advance, and now they head out on tour with Don Broco. Expect Lonely The Brave to mean something to an awful lot of people very soon.
