Liima
WE SAY
Hailing from Finland and Denmark, Liima released their album “ii” earlier this year, but it's now securing them a swathe of festival bookings and showcase slots, helped on by the ETEP (European Talent Exchange Programme). An initiative of Eurosonic Nooderslag, which we’re keen supporters of, it brings acts like this to a wider attention across the media and on the live circuit. Liima’s name means glue in Finnish, and the Nordic quartet began 2016 with a residency at the boutique London Edition hotel in Soho, before heading on the road, where they’ve pretty much been ever since, and are currently in South America. The album was written entirely during week-long residencies in Berlin, Madeira, Istanbul and Finland, with each unique setting influencing their sound, via interlaced field recordings and samples, which then gets played live in front of an audience. It’s that off-the-wall approach that’s winning them admirers globally. Distinctive, quirky, unconventional, but always accessible, this cool track is a great intro to their work, if you’re not already familiar with them.
