Tastemaker

Katie Laffan

self release

WE SAY

After steadily building her profile in her native Ireland, Katie Laffan now looks set to create a buzz in the UK and beyond with this funky, quirky track. It was produced by Liam Caffrey of Music for 18 Machines, and mastered by John Flynn, who worked with Björk on her 2015 album Vulnicura. Laffan and her band played a bunch of prestigious show in Ireland, including Electric Picnic, K Fest and others, before finishing up 2016 in Kerry in December for Other Voices. The producer of that show, Aoife Woodlock, then invited her to appear at Dublin’s National Concert Hall alongside may of the country’s best spoken-word artists as part of the St. Patrick's Day Young Blood event. Katie’s also recently recorded sessions for RTE 2FM and Today FM. Musically there’s so much to love here. Imagine if Hot Chip’s wonderful Over & Over had been reworked by the Rodgers and Edwards rhythm section of Chic, or even the Blockheads. Then they’d invited Katie in to join the party and add her own street-smart lyrical twist to the proceedings. It’s so addictive, we sense stardom is imminent.
