It's Okay (To Not Be Okay)
Julia Bardo
WE SAY
The final artist on our look at artists performing at this year’s Eurosonic Noorderslag is Manchester-via-Italy singer, songwriter and guitarist Julia Bardo. Her musical journey began in Brescia in Northern Italy, where she sang and wrote lyrics for a local band between shifts at her father’s bar. She then relocated to Manchester for creative inspiration as a solo musician before meeting and then joining post-punk band Working Men’s Club. At the end of 2019, she decided to return to being a solo musician and since then has delivered a string of impressive alternative-pop releases. Along the way, she has picked up radio support from 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Radio X and Amazing Radio, as well as tastemaker support from the likes of the Line of Best Fit, Fader, Clash, Wonderland and Notion to name just a few. Drawing influences from the likes of Cate Le Bon, and Angel Olsen this contemplative song about survival, self-acceptance and positivity is her latest release. Doused in lashing of '60s tinged flavoured vibes, it is just one of the many beautiful tracks, including Please Don’t Tell Me and I Wanna Feel Love, that if you haven’t heard them yet, then you must. She’s been nominated for a Music Moves Europe Award with the winners being announced later tonight (15 Jan) at ESNS, but before that, you can watch her perform at 20.05 (21.05 CET) on ESNS 01.
