Torch Song
J.S. Ondara
WE SAY
Hailed as Artist You Need To Know by Rolling Stone, singer-songwriter J.S. Ondara is an outstanding new folk talent and this Sunday will be performing at Glastonbury (1.30pm, Acoustic Stage) for the first time. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, he grew up listening to American alt-rock and after discovering the music of Bob Dylan moved to Minneapolis to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. Over the course of five years he wrote hundreds of songs about the American Dream from an outsider’s point of view and from those, he whittled it down to eleven songs for his critically acclaimed debut album Tales of America, released earlier this year. Recorded at Boulevard Recording and East West Studios in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Mike Viola (Jenny Lewis), it’s a gorgeous and invigorating listen that has received praise from the likes of The Times, The Sun, and NPR. Featuring Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes, as well as Mike Viola, Sebastian Steinberg, Joey Ryan of The Milk Carton Kids and Eric Lea, this mesmerising track is one of the standout tracks from the album. Having played to a sold out Bush Hall gig earlier this year, we fully recommend you adding J.S Ondara to your Sunday Glastonbury viewing, if you are attending of course, and you never know with Jo Whiley as a fan, we also may get to see him on the BBC coverage too.
