Early ft. Jafaris
Joy Crookes
Speakerbox Recordings/Insanity Records/Sony Music UK
WE SAY
Elephant & Castle-based singer, songwriter, producer and performer Joy Crookes has had a phenomenal 2019. She’s released two EPs, Reminiscence and Perception, this year that has won her acclaim from fans and critics across the globe for her unique, fresh and modern approach to story-telling through song. Vogue, Dior, Radio 1, 1 Xtra, Rinse, Spotify, the Line of Best Fit, Clash, and Evening Standard are among her many fans - while her Instagram profile has grown over 500% this year alone, along with 20m worldwide streams for her music. This stunningly smooth and soulful ode featuring good friend and Irish artist Jafaris is her latest single and has been heralded by Annie Mac as Joy’s best record so far (and we wholeheartedly agree). It’s just been added to Radio 1’s C list this week after being championed by Maya Jama, Rickie Melvin & Charlie, and Clara Amfo, who also made it her Tune of the Week a couple of weeks back. She is currently on her sold-out tour of the UK, which comes to EartH in London on 5 November, having performed at Glastonbury, Latitude, and Reeperbahn festivals, as well as R1 Big Weekend this summer. Next week, she makes her first appearance on Later with Jools Holland that will undoubtedly see her star rise further as a new audience is introduced to her classic yet modern soul sound. 2020 is set to be a massive year for Joy and deservedly so. A true talent.
