Why Would You (Go)
Jodie Nicholson
WE SAY
Last year, we highlighted emerging North East artist Jodie Nicholson in our Compass column and as a RotD with the brilliant single Move. That track quickly became a tastemaker favourite with playlist support at 6 Music and plays across Radio 1 and BBC Introducing. Further tastemaker praise for her has come from Spotify, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, American Songwriter, Mahogany, AlexRainBird, Sofar Sounds and Indie Shuffle, to name but a few. Supported by PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music Award and Sentric’s ‘Academy’ Fund, Jodie will be dropping her Tim Bran (London Grammar, Aurora, Rae Morris) produced EP Can’t Escape The Feeling this Friday (20 August). Why Would You (Go) is the infectiously upbeat and heart-wrenching lead single. Its pensive lyrics blend effortlessly with the tracks aching keys, mellow electronics and thoughtful atmospherics to create a single screaming out to be featured on mood playlists and synced to Love Island or a Netflix Teen Drama. It’s absolutely gorgeous and deserves your listen. Once again, Jodie has created something sonically rich and warm for us to delve into and enjoy. Watch the accompanying video directed by Elizabeth Evans here. For fans of Lucy Rose, Daughter, Warpaint and Laura Marling.
