David At The Bar
Jerry Williams
WE SAY
Since our last feature with 23 year old singer-songwriter and RotD favourite Jerry Williams back in June, the Portsmouth based artist has had a pretty busy and impressive six months. In September, she played the Reeperbahn festival, then supported Calpurnia on their sold-out UK and European tour and finally closed out the year by signing to Royal Mountain Records (Mac DeMarco, Alvvays, Calpurnia) in Canada, Big Picnic Records (Everything Everything) in the US and Ferryhouse Records in Europe. Premiered by Clash and self-released on her own label in the UK last Friday, this infectious new indie-pop earworm was written after she met a troubled but sweet alcoholic at a bar who had a baby on the way. It’s a raw and emotive ode that achingly pulls at the heartstrings through Jerry’s delicate and charming vocals to its climatic and atmospheric ending. Featuring on Spotify’s New Music Friday, as well as already garnering tastemaker support from Earmilk, Atwood Magazine and BBC Introducing, this absolute gem is shaping up to be her biggest hit yet and with two days of promo booked in for the US this week, it looks like the States are calling as well. Next week, Jerry will kick off a seven date tour of Germany and UK, culminating in her biggest headline show to date at Camden Assembly on 30 January, which we can’t wait for. So see you there.
