Long May They Roll (Malay Mix)

Jay James Picton

Decca/Universal

WE SAY

Jay James Picton may have only discovered his talent for singing five years ago, but now he can count greats such as Booker T Jones, The Roots, Roger Daltrey, Hal David and John Legend as fans. Long May They Roll is only the second full single taken from his forthcoming debut album (due August 27), and we were totally gripped from the first beat to the last. The Malay mix (he also worked with Frank Ocean, John Legend, G-Unit and Andre 3000) we are featuring today has been blowing up on 1Xtra. It follows Jay's first release, which was on label of the moment - Black Butter - and received Radio 1 support from Annie Mac, Trevor Nelson and Pete Tong to name a few. Radio 2 and BBC London also supported his first EP, Play it By Heart, which set the ball rolling with some great press including glowing reviews from MOBO, This Is Fake DIY and more recently Music Week and Billboard. The Welsh singer is clearly an all round creative, not only having a strong hand in his production, but also running a media company - Love Or Rage - and directing his music videos. Video.

London gigs: August 15, Headline show @ The Water Rats // 22/23/24 August, Ronnie Scott's (Booker T's special guest) // August 25, Supporting Jesse J, Alwick Castle
