If Music Could Talk / Four Music / Sony
WE SAY
If, like us, you adore powerful soulful vocals then you really must check out Swedish R&B singer Janice at The Great Escape this Thursday evening (6.30pm) downstairs at Patterns. It’s just over two years since she released her debut single, Don’t Need To, a soulful synth beauty that went on to become one of P3’s (Swedish radio’s version of BBC R1) most played songs that year, as well as entering Spotify’s global viral chart. From this, she landed a record deal with Sony Germany and spent the rest of the year travelling between Stockholm and London working with writers and producers on material for her debut album. Her follow-up single, the deeply personal and emotional Answer about the loss of her father then went on to achieve gold status in Sweden. This beautiful and empowering piano-led track is the latest single from her debut album Fallin Up, which was released back in February, and showcases the sheer range of human emotions she can convey in her voice. It's just stunning. With over 10 million total Spotify plays, a Swedish Grammy nomination for Best Newcomer and tastemaker support from the likes of the Line of Best Fit, Mixmag and the Sunday Times, Janice is the next Swedish artist you have to see live.
