James Holt
Whispers

Self-released via AWAL

WE SAY

Whispers by Manchester-born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist James Holt has to be one of the most beautiful tracks we've heard all year. Produced by Charlatans and Johnny Marr producer Jim Spencer, it gently lures you in as the shimming percussion, delicate piano and acoustic melody builds majestically into a glorious ethereal ballad. Lyrically, the song is about unanswered love and perfectly conveyed in James’s moving and tender vocals. It’s all the more impressive considering the 24-year-old was diagnosed with a bilateral moderate-to-severe hearing loss at the age of four and has since worked to overcome his disability by obtaining a music degree and a masters in music composition from the University of Salford. Premiered by the Line of Best Fit, Whispers has since garnered praise by Louder Than War, Gigwise and Gigslutz, as well as receiving radio support from Radio 2 (Dermot O'Leary), KCRW (Chris Douridas, Marion Hodges), 6 Music, BBC Introducing, and Amazing Radio. This year has seen James perform at Liverpool Sound City recently to add to his solo performance at the Royal Albert Hall and support slots with Slow Readers Club. Already championed by legendary artist and producer Brian Eno, we believe it won't too long before more admirers come flocking to hear this talented musician. An evocative and timeless masterpiece.
