Influenced by her love of Aphex Twin, as well as the constant industrial hum of the city of London, London-based Irish-Puerto Rican musician Jæd dropped this haunting, imaginary tale of indulgence and self-judgement last week. Driven by guitars interlaced with jagged drum patterns, ‘Bakkos’ is a chaotic affair. From the vocal thrills of Kate Bush to the simmering energy of At The Drive-In and the glitched-out freefalls of Death Grips, it has it all. Taken from her forthcoming debut album, ‘I Loved The Gauntlet And There Was No Other Way’, produced with Andy Ramsey (Stereolab, Kero Kero Bonito, Nilüfer Yanya) and Dilip Harris (King Krule, Mount Kimbie), the track is a statement of intent, which will divide opinion. But if you are looking for something that is left, very left of centre, look no more. Having gained attention at Ireland Music Week and Music Cork, as well as Ritual Union Bristol, tonight (22 October) she will be playing at Sebright Arms in London. Tastemaker support has come from The Line of Best Fit, The Forty-Five, Rough Trade, and Nialler9, among others. Watch the video here.
