WE SAY
The final artist we recommend you check out at the Great Escape Festival is Danish pop star, Jada. Raised in the countryside of Denmark within a family of traditional folk singers, Jada had to discover modern music as a teenager by going into record stores to listen to CDs. Inspired by the likes of JoJo, Britney Spears and Destiny Child as a teen to enter into music, Jada has since established herself as a voice of an entire generation in Denmark who relate to her authentic lyrics and trend-busting sounds. Indebted to the elastic electro-pop sphere crafted by her Nordic aural ancestors and peers, from Robyn to MØ, her sound confidently traverses the 00s R&B melodies and vocal arrangements of her idols. In 2019, her debut album went to no.1 on the Danish album chart and has since helped her amass over 50m streams. Along the way, she has won 14 of the most prominent music awards in Denmark, including the P3 Talent Award at P3 Gold Awards 2019 (Denmark's equivalent to BBC Sound of) and was the winner of the P3 Award (the main award) and Single Of The Year for Nudes at P3 Gold Awards 2020. In the past eighteen months, she has released three singles, including this platinum-selling single, from her forthcoming second album Elements, out on 27 May. Showcasing her gorgeous vocals and knack for creating honest and emotive pop, Nudes is the perfect introduction to Jada for those of you not in the know. You can catch her performing tonight (13 May) at Brighthelm at 10.30pm.
