Fairy In A Bottle
Jacob Alon
WE SAY
Continuing our Ones To Watch 2025 is Edinburgh-based poet and singer-songwriter Jacob Alon. Born and raised in Fife in a single parent family, Jacob first learned to play the piano at the age of nine before later picking up the guitar at age 15. Enchanted by the sombre beauty of Nick Drake and Adrianne Lenker’s music, Jacob started to write songs in school for friends before their all-consuming love of music evolved from a hobby to a lifeline whilst at university. After dropping out of university, they began to play folk nights in Edinburgh before finding solace in the Scottish capital’s queer scene, which gave them the confidence to pour their innermost feelings into song. Since bursting onto the scene earlier this year with this gorgeous debut, Jacob quickly made an impression with their intimate and devastatingly introspective music. 6 Music added it to their C-list while BBC Introducing Scotland made it their ‘Track of the Week’ and Later with Jools Holland’s team invited them to perform the track live on the show last month. Their follow-up ‘Confession’ continues to showcase their knack for poetic lyrics, delivered with haunting vocals over intricate acoustic guitar playing. Having sold out their London show at Folklore in October, Jacob will perform at Eurosonic in January before heading out on a UK tour, where their shows in London, Brighton and Bristol have already sold out. With comparisons to Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright, along with early support from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, 6 Music and more, there is quite a buzz about Jacob, and we fully believe they have the talent to take their music to a wider audience in 2025.
