Jackie Oates

One Little Indian

WE SAY

This cover of The Sugarcubes' song from Jackie Oates is as arresting as the original version, which we've always loved. A former member of Mercury-nominated Rachel Unthank & The Winterset and newly-signed to One Little Indian, Oates’ next single from her album Hyperboreans is produced by Jim Moray. The considered strings and Oates' haunting vocal all add up to make this a memorable and unique cover of what is a brutal yet beautiful song. Support so far has come from John Kennedy on XFM, Cerys Matthews on BBC 6Music and Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2. Oates, winner of two BBC Folk Awards 2009 including the Best Newcomer Award, is currently on a UK tour. JF
