No End
Jaakko Eino Kalevi
WE SAY
Anyone at Eurosonic would do well to check out Finnish cult hero (and part-time tram driver) Jaakko Eino Kalevi tonight at Forum Images. We caught him at the reliably cool Ja Ja Ja Nordic music night before Christmas and can confirm that he's well worth staying up for. Jaakko (pronounced 'Yah-ko') has released a steady stream of diverse music on local labels for years, and in signing to Weird World becomes the first Nordic artist to work with Domino or its subsidiaries in the label's 20-year history. No End, the lead track from the Dreamzone EP available now, is a dubbed-out love song featuring Helsinki vocalist Suad Khalifa and what might be the most blissful sax work since Pacific State. Press from Best Fit and Vice to Grazia and the Sunday Times has gone gaga, while 6Music has been the major supporter at radio. Watch out for his full-length debut for Weird World/Domino in the summer.
