WE SAY
JÁNA is the alias of Stockholm based artist Johanna Andrén, who creates woozy, R&B tinged electronica from a home-made studio in her parents’ garage. Earlier this year she introduced herself to the world via her collaborations with Swedish heavyweights Little Dragon on her debut EP Flowerworks. The Fader, COLORS, Lyrical Lemonade, the Line of Best Fit and Clash among others all quickly got on board, offering praise for her sound and lyrics. Further support came from Spotify who added tracks to their editorial playlists such as Oyster, BAE and Aura. Now back with this luxurious slice of jazz-inflected R&B, JÁNA makes another huge statement of intent. Flecked with atmospheric electronic flourishes and featuring Nigerian-American R&B duo VanJess, Green reflects on jealousy within a relationship with the whispered tones of vulnerability from JÁNA blending effortlessly with the soulful intimacy of the duo. Expect to see this on soulful and new release programming this Friday, as well as more praise from tastemakers. A gorgeous listen and must for fans of modern R&B.
