'Til Infinity
IYES
WE SAY
We first featured Brighton's then-unsigned IYES, comprising Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanova, in the Compass pages of the magazine in May, by which time the glistening boy/girl alt-pop of online demo Glow was earning them blog love, some early broadsheet press, radio spins on Xfm and Radio 1, and an invitation to play the BBC Introducing stage at The Great Escape. There's a balletic quality to the interplay of voices on debut single 'Til Infinity, another helping of lush his-and-hers synth pop in which Soyaslanova's dainty vocal is hoisted weightlessly over a sinewy chorus, all tribal drums, driving ride cymbals and staccato harmonies. Naturally the blogs have gone gaga for it, ovations from Shortlist and Hunger to Best Fit and Earmilk pushing it to no. 1 on Hype Machine's Most Blogged Artist chart. IYES were the Guardian's New Band of the Day on Friday, while radio comes from Zane Lowe (Next Hype) Phil & Alice and Ally McCrae. Catch them at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston on November 25.
