Take Me To Church
Hozier
WE SAY
It's only a matter of weeks since we last featured Hozier with his sublime track Sedated but now things are really ramping up in anticipation of his eagerly-awaited self-titled debut album (due September 22). This featured track is already firmly established as one of the highlights of his live set. We've written previously about his recent London Tabernacle gigs and, on the evening we saw him, this song provoked one young lady to stand in the middle of the balcony in almost confessional style, emoting every syllable of every word with her hands reaching out towards him on stage, singing passionately at the top of her voice. That's the effect this bloke has on people. The astonishingly powerful black and white video has notched up more than six million YouTube views and caused quite a stir on message boards worldwide. The track has already accumulated more than 11 million Spotify streams globally. However, it looks like this is just the beginning. His US tour this October is sold out, this single has been iTunes Top 15 there and the album preorder has sat comfortably inside the main iTunes Top 50 since it was announced. Next in the UK comes his date at London's Koko on September 17 (also sold out) and gigs in Europe, where radio stations are reportedly playing the track on unprecedented levels of rotation. It’s a song that’s bold, authentic and above all, wonderfully memorable. All in all, Hozier is one of those rare artists you can truly believe in. Watch out people, there's a new superstar in town.
