Hozier
WE SAY
Take one quick glance across the singles chart in Ireland right now and you'll realise how much love there is for the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist that is Hozier. Reaching No.1 with taster EP Take Me To Church as well as this latest track, music buyers in the Emerald Isle have often traditionally taken talented chaps like this to their hearts ahead of the rest of the UK and we bet the same trajectory is about to happen with this project too. Everything you hear on the track is the work of just this one bloke, who hails from County Wicklow. All four EP tracks were recorded and co-produced in an attic by Rob Kirwan, noted for his work with PJ Harvey and Depeche Mode. Hozier's acclaimed live performances to date have included his debut UK show at The Troubadour in January that sold out in two minutes, The Lexington in March and, more recently, at SXSW. Next he's set to appear at the Tabernacle in June (two shows, both sold out) and several other UK festivals across the summer, prior to the much-anticipated debut album in the autumn. Zane and Fearne Cotton at Radio 1 have been big supporting tastemakers from the start along with Xfm and Cerys Matthews at BBC 6 Music. Raw, emotional, soulful and bluesy, there's even a glorious hint of gospel in the mix too. We're prepared to stick our necks on the line and say this is a talent we'll be talking about as a platinum-selling star for years to come.
