Wishes And Stars
Harper Simon
WE SAY
Harper Simon's self-titled debut was released last month to some great press reviews. Uncut called the collection 'cleverly written, elegantly played and beautifully sung pieces of pop craftsmanship' while Q offered that it is 'sweet sounding (and) impossible-to-dislike'. Wishes and Stars, a co-write with the Booker Prize-winning Nigerian poet and author Ben Okri, is a standout example of the fine fare on the album, which, although thoughtful and heartfelt throughout, also sounds effortless and breezy. The last single was playlisted at BBC Radio 2, which also hosted his live sessions on Dermot O’ Leary & Simon Mayo's shows. Radio sessions also at Lauren Laverne at 6Music, Geoff Lloyd at Absolute Radio and John Kennedy at XFM. A Bob Harris session on Radio 2 goes out this weekend as Harper plays UK shows including The Great Escape this week. Summer dates include The Summer Sundae and Cambridge Folk Festivals, with more to be announced. JF. London gig: May 12, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen N1 (w/ Chapin Sisters) The Great Escape gig: May 13, Unitarian Church (22:00)
