Kill The Fun
Haley Bonar
WE SAY
After being discovered a decade ago by Alan Sparhawk from the band Low at an open mic night, when she was still a teenage college student, Haley Bonar has built a solid cult following in the US, releasing four albums to date. Her fifth, entitled Last War, marks her UK debut, after signing with Memphis Industries. This first single from it has already had support from key tastemakers like Lauren Laverne, Marc Riley and Radcliffe and Maconie at 6Music (where the station has now added the song to their playlist), John Kennedy at Xfm and Dermot O’Leary at Radio 2. Expect some radio sessions when she arrives in the UK to play live dates this autumn, shortly after the album release on September 29. Haley's band of rotating cast members includes Jeremy Hanson (from Tapes ‘n Tapes), Luke Anderson (Rogue Valley), Mike Lewis (who plays with Bon Iver) and Jeremy Ylvisaker. They play London's Lexington on October 29. Musically, you'll hear Joy Division and early Cure in the instrumentation whilst vocally we're reminded of The Go-Gos and even the great Voice Of The Beehive, so we approve of the genuinely glorious mix. This is folk-tinged pop with an uber-cool retro feel, something that you'll find impossible to resist.
