Gurrumul's self-titled debut album was a phenomenal success, selling half a million copies worldwide and winning considerable awards, including multiple ARIA's. In the UK Radio 2 playlisted three singles. Gurrumul was due to tour Europe in 2010 but fell ill. He has now returned to fitness and is set to release his second solo album, Rrakala. Sung in his native tongue, Gopuru is the first single to be taken from the album. Produced by his manager Michael Hohnen, the song describes the rhythms of a totemic fish as it swims through the sea. Gurrumul plays everything on the recording, from piano, to guitar and drums. There is a great romance to Gurrumul's work, his ability to make an emotional connection with listeners is demonstrated to exemplary success here on this beautiful soulful song. Video.
