Gruff Rhys
WE SAY
We always loved Gruff Rhys when he was the lead singer of Welsh mavericks Super Furry Animals, so we're delighted that this fourth solo project might just be his best work yet. This title track to the album (due May 5) is part of a multi-media campaign, taking in a film, book and app as well as the music itself. The film had its world premiere at SXSW last week and shows Gruff taking an unusual odyssey across America, retracing the steps of his distant relative John Evans, who was a 22-year-old Snowdonian farmhand and went to the US in 1792 to find a Welsh-speaking Native American tribe called the Madogwys, still walking the Great Plains. The songs he's written as a result of this journey are, quite simply, stunning and beautiful. Hear them played live in the UK at London's Soho Theatre from May 5-10 and at various festivals across the summer. Magical and gorgeous, this is a song we've played endlessly around the office (and beyond) for a couple of weeks now and already fondly cherish it, holding close to our collective hearts. You will too. Prepare to be seduced.
