Looking ahead to The Great Escape, Groenland are a Canadian six-piece that have already been described by the music press there as sounding something like a jazzy version of Arcade Fire if Adele were out front on vocal duties. You’ll hear that instantly on this opening track from their terrific 2013 album The Chase, now available in deluxe expanded format with several bonus tracks. Led by Sabrina Halde and Jean-Vivier Lévesque, the band has played alongside acts including St. Vincent at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Local Natives and Half Moon Run and can be seen this week for two shows in Brighton, first at the Paganini Ballroom on Friday afternoon (May 15) and again for an evening gig at The Old Market on Saturday night (May 16). Their music's been synced on TV commercials for British Airways and the iPad, as well as been heard on hit US TV drama The Good Wife. This wonderful song shows off vocal acrobatics worthy of Sia with its quirky hooks and deft flourishes. Refreshingly simple and organic-sounding, they could be a real word-of-mouth buzz act this weekend.
