Grammy-nominated Gregory Porter is the sort of dream artist every record label secretly covets. He strolls into town, charms everyone who he comes into contact with and has a voice that’s right up there with the best soul and jazz legends. Each time he appears on TV to promote his music, sales spike almost instantly. He’s a perfect fit at Radio 2, of course, but he managed to find his way onto Radio 1 recently too thanks to Holding On, his collaboration with Disclosure on their Caracal album. 2013’s Liquid Spirit was a Top 10 album and has spent a staggering 84 weeks on the Top 100. So expectations are high for the follow-up but this lead single demonstrates just what a class act he is. Written with his three year-old Demyan in mind, this is quality stuff destined to be seeping smoothly out of speakers everywhere with summer upon us. He’s playing the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage next month, you’ll see him too performing on the David Attenborough At 90 TV special this weekend, and there’s plenty of other promo lined up in the coming months. Just one word will suffice: cool.
