WE SAY
What a great idea for a house tune this is, and how brilliantly executed it is too. Gramophonedzie – better known as Serbian producer and DJ Marko Milicevic – built ‘Why Don’t You’ around a sample from Peggy Lee’s 1943 swing version of the blues standard ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?'. The result has become a DJ staple for the likes of Carl Cox, Norman Jay and the Hed Kandi crew. Early signs are good for crossover success with 'Why Don't You' climbing the Shazam Pre-Release Tag Charts (currently No.11), Cool Cuts chart (No.4) and being added to the MTV Dance B list. Early radio support has come from Nick Grimshaw and Giles Peterson at BBC Radio 1, Steve Smart on Kiss and Andy Durrant on Galaxy. Video. JF
