As the first lockdown in the UK was easing last summer, we extolled the uplifting virtues of Born Again by Spanish-born multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Gizmo Varillas. This time, he is back with another gloriously positive and infectious single just as we come out of the latest (and hopefully the last) lockdown. With its hazy summer feel and flamenco guitar-laced melody, A La Vida is an absolute joy. It’s one of those ridiculously catchy earworm songs that sink into your subconsciousness to the point where you’ll find yourself humming happily along to it at moments throughout the day. Released in English and Spanish in celebration of surpassing 1m streams per month milestone, the track is perfect for radio and streaming playlists. It has already received its radio airplay premiere on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show along with spot plays from Paul O’Grady and Craig Charles on the station. While at streaming, Spotify has heavily supported with features across its editorial playlists (International NMFs, A Perfect Day, The Indie List, Vibra Tropical), and Apple Music has added it to their Songs Of Summer playlist. Insidiously addictive with a killer hook and vibe, this Latin-infused gem is the ideal soundtrack to the upcoming spring and summer months.
