Next up in our Ones To Watch 2024 is Sheffield’s alternative pop visionary Gia Ford. Newly signed to Chrysalis Records after making a name for herself playing cafes and bars around her home city and a couple of single releases, Gia Ford is an artist whom you can’t help but admire for her burgeoning talent. She elegantly crafts songs that bridge the darker and brooding aspects of Fleetwood Mac with the balladry of Carole King and echoes of the Carpenters. It’s truly sublime, and add to that her poignant lyricism, which tells stories of the downtrodden, love and the uncomfortable truths about ourselves, and you have an artist that we reckon has a big future ahead. This stunning single, produced by Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers) and co-written with Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Joseph Wander, is her most recent release and followed the haunting ‘Alligator’, both of which received extensive praise from tastemakers including Rolling Stone UK, DIY, NME, Clash, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, 6Music and more. BBC Introducing is already a fan and has confirmed a live session for her next single, while DSP support has come from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and VEVO. Plus, Ticketmaster has selected her as a featured artist for their New Music program. On the live front, she supported Self Esteem at her Sheffield Don Valley Show, was one of the First Fifty announced for next year’s Great Escape Festival in May, has been invited to SXSW 24 and just announced her own headline show at London's The Lower Third on 24 January to kick off the new year. Everything is shaping up nicely for Gia to have a massive impact next year, and with her timeless sound and ability to convey raw emotion through her haunting lyrics and vocals, coupled with her captivating live shows, it wouldn’t surprise us if her rise is fast-tracked over the coming months.
