Animal Keeper
George Barnett
WE SAY
Not unlike Robert DeLong, Herefordshire singer-songwriter and poly-instrumentalist George Barnett does everything himself. Unlike DeLong, Barnett isn't yet twenty years old and is, incredibly, still unsigned. So when we say he does everything we really mean everything, from writing and producing the songs to making his own videos and releasing his own music, including two EPs and a full-length album called 17 Days. A recent Daft Punk cover attracted 8m views on YouTube, not to mention plaudits from Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers. Thankfully the one-man phenomenon thing isn't a gimmick; his recent Animal Keeper EP is diverse, musically mature and lyrically inventive, evincing a passion and precision that's astonishing in someone so young. The title track, featured here, was added to the BBC Introducing list at Radio 1, while pop ballad Reflection deserves a mention for the strength of the songwriting alone. Having recently supported Frank Hamilton on his 17-night autumn tour, George is now receiving offers in the UK and internationally for festivals next year. We very much hope he will accept, if he's not too busy organising his own.
London gigs: Red Gallery, November 27 / Oslo, December 5 (supporting Indiana)
