So I Cry Out
Gambles
WE SAY
We work through a mountain of music every week here at RotD, some of which gets several listens, some of which gets ... ooh, several seconds at least. So when you're still listening to a new artist two hours after first hearing them, you know you're onto something pretty special. Thus it went for Gambles, aka NYC-based troubadour Matthew Daniel Siskin, whose So I Cry Out had us floored on first listen. Unlike Pitchfork, who were first to feature Gambles when there was just one song - the 'cracked vocals and vague, ominous lyricism' of Trust - to go on, we had the luxury a full album to dive into, self-released on October 7. Trust - the LP - is a collection of thirteen fragile and honest songs, delivered in a rasp suggesting Siskin has seen his fair share late nights, single malts and heart break. Blog love, from Best Fit to Clash to Fake DIY, is fittingly effusive, while a brace of broadsheet and glossy features are also confirmed. Gideon Coe at 6Music and Ricky Ross at BBC Scotland are first there radio-wise, but expect more soon.
