I've Improved

Gabby Young & Other Animals

Gift Of The Gab Records

WE SAY

In amongst all the cool new dance tracks and big guitar anthems that are the flavour of the month right now, it’s often easy to forget platinum album-selling acts with broad appeal like Caro Emerald and Imelda May. We reckon we’ve potentially found another one here in the shape of Gabby Young & Other Animals. Already she’s had support in the past from key players at BBC Radio 2 and 6Music as well as glowing reviews in The Guardian, FT, Mirror, Mojo, Sunday Times & even The Fly on her previous two albums. This first cut comes from her third album One Foot In Front Of The Other (out April 28), which her fans helped fund via Kickstarter, and it takes in folk, cabaret, jazz and even a tinge of ska, all delivered with a unique, distinctive vocal.  She’s recently become a bit of an internet style icon too, thanks to her great Gabberdashery boutique website. The video’s a simple but rather lovely little animated gem and Gabby can be caught live at London’s Lexington on February 26, then onto Esther’s Follies, Austin, Texas on March 12, right in the heart of 2014’s SXSW festival. Retro, yet modern at the same time, this is top-notch feel-good adult pop that we can hear playing to radio and TV audiences across the UK, Europe and beyond, all summer long. Right now, this feels like a total breath of fresh air, just as the first signs of spring are here. Bring on the sun!
