Can't Get Enough
FØNX
Honey Motive Records via Absolute
WE SAY
FØNX is a young British musician who we’ve had on our radar for a while. And by the sounds of this fresh new song from him, things are coming together perfectly right now. Prior to FØNX enrolling at the Brit School to study, he’d already absorbed himself in music-making since he first picked up the guitar, aged seven. His key influences now are a mix of singer-songwriters like John Mayer alongside R’n’B heavyweights like Kanye, Frank Ocean and D’Angelo. His supporters at radio for previous releases have included Huw Stephens at Radio 1, Dermot O’Leary at Radio 2, Tom Robinson at 6 Music and across BBC Introducing. A swampy, crunchy distorted bassline and handclaps pull you right into the hook-laden driving groove here, expertly produced by Grammy Award-winning Tommaso Coliva, who’s noted for his work with Muse, Damon Albarn and Franz Ferdinand among others. FØNX is already a firm favourite with the Sofar Sounds team and next performs for them in London this Saturday (August 19). Remember the name. He's an exciting early contender for your 2018 tips lists.
