Fever Boy

WE SAY
We're late on FEMME, who launched her AA-side single Fever Boy/Heartbeat at White Heat last week, but we're also pleased to note that Fever Boy especially - a Beck-like speak-sing verse that sashays into an infectious Shangri Las-esque pop chorus - appears to be enjoying something of an extended shelf life. Annie Mac, in for Zane Lowe, made it a Next Hype on Thursday following plays from 6Music, Xfm and Amazing Radio, and when press comes in on consecutive days from Best Fit and the Daily Mail then something must be going on. FEMME is 100% the vision of Laura Bettinson, formerly of Dimbleby & Capper, who also fronts Ultraista, the Afrobeat supergroup of producers Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker. Bettinson writes and produces everything, as well as designing all her own artwork and directing her videos. She's just back from the US, where she played shows in New York and LA.
