Ghost Narrative
Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo
WE SAY
'Critical acclaim' is such a well-worn press release platitude as almost to have become white noise. Which is a shame for artists that genuinely warrant it, like Emily Barker, whose fourth album Dear River attracted across-the-board 4 and 5-star reviews in July, selling well over the counter and peaking at no. 7 in the OCC Record Store Chart. Given a radio mix by Cenzo Townshend (Snow Patrol, Tom Odell, Ben Howard), Ghost Narrative - a AA-side with Tuesday - maintains all the folksy charm for which she has become known over four albums and several BBC drama placements, with a little added FM (Fleetwood Mac) magic. Radio support comes from Dermot O'Leary, Alex Lester, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Bob Harris, who recently invited her to play the BBC Introducing stage at Nashville's AmericanaFest (check out her performance here). With her band The Red Clay Halo, Emily embarked on a 28-date UK tour last week, which takes in Shepherd's Bush Empire this Wednesday (Oct 16).
